Hola a todos. Soy Georgiana, tu profesora de inglés. Mi misión es ayudarte a hablar inglés con fluidez.
Hoy vamos a practicar algunas de las palabras que suelen resultar más difíciles de pronunciar en inglés.
Nos centraremos en palabras que empiezan por th, como this o that, y en palabras que terminan en -ly, como constantly o definitely. Después practicaremos la fluidez con una mini-historia.
La pronunciación inglesa puede ser complicada para muchos estudiantes, y la lengua materna influye bastante en los sonidos que resultan más difíciles.
Uno de los mayores retos para estudiantes de todo el mundo es pronunciar correctamente th.
Tres pronunciaciones que conviene distinguir
La combinación th puede representar distintos sonidos. Por ejemplo, el sonido sonoro /ð/ aparece en this, that, these, those, they, them.
El sonido sordo /θ/ aparece en palabras como three, thing, thought.
Por eso algunos estudiantes dicen dat en lugar de that. También hay palabras, como Thai, en las que las letras th se pronuncian /t/.
Entre las palabras que mis alumnos han señalado como difíciles están: thought, through, three, threaten, throughout, theft.

Palabras terminadas en -ly
También pueden resultar difíciles palabras como independently, significantly, unfortunately, definitely, consciously y excitedly.
La dificultad suele estar en los grupos de consonantes. A veces tienes que enlazar dos o incluso tres consonantes seguidas. Para pronunciar bien muchas palabras terminadas en -ly, es especialmente útil dominar el sonido inglés /l/.
En independently y significantly, por ejemplo, aparecen varias consonantes seguidas. Repítelas despacio y después aumenta la velocidad.

Con unfortunately y definitely ocurre algo parecido. Escucha el grupo consonántico y repite varias veces.

En consciously aparece un grupo consonántico que también requiere práctica. Escucha y repite: consciously.
“You have made a decision, whether consciously or unconsciously.”
“I would not think he is consciously rude to people; it’s just his personality.”
Y en excitedly tenemos otra combinación de consonantes. Escucha y repite varias veces: excitedly.
“People were gathering and talking excitedly.”
“She waved excitedly as the car approached.”

Yes. He made the selection excitedly. He was excited about his work.
Were his dishes inedible?
No. No. His dishes were not inedible. His dishes were delicious.
Unfortunately, one day something terrible happened. Tom lost his inspiration.
Did something wonderful happen?
No. No. Unfortunately, something terrible happened.
Was Tom inspired to prepare new dishes?
No. No. Tom wasn’t inspired. He lost his inspiration.
Was he significantly inspired?
No. He wasn’t significantly inspired. Tom lost his inspiration.
But luckily, Tom realized that what he needed was to operate more independently.
Was Tom able to realize something?
Yes. Luckily, Tom realized something.
Did Tom need more supervision?
No. No. Tom needed to become more independent. He needed to operate more independently.
So he definitely opened up his own restaurant and worked as a chef there.
What did Tom open? A bakery?
No. No. Tom didn’t open a bakery. He opened a restaurant.
Was it his own restaurant?
Yes. Tom opened his own restaurant.
Did he work as a waiter there?
No. No. Tom worked as a chef in his own restaurant.
That’s how he recovered his inspiration and worked continuously and excitedly for the rest of his life.
What did he recover? His dignity?
No. No. He didn’t recover his dignity. He recovered his inspiration.
Did he work again continuously?
Yes. He worked again continuously and excitedly.
How long did he continue to work as a chef?
For the rest of his life. Tom continued to work as a chef for the rest of his life.
