En los episodios anteriores vimos varias formas de sustituir look. Hoy añadimos cinco verbos más para expresar con mayor precisión cómo miramos o percibimos algo.
1) To scan
Scan significa recorrer algo rápidamente con la mirada para buscar información o localizar algo.
Ejemplo: I scanned the room to see if Mary was there.
También se usa para digitalizar documentos: I need to scan some diagrams for my presentation.
2) To eye
Como verbo, eye significa mirar algo con interés, deseo o atención.
Ejemplo: I have been eyeing that cake for hours, but I must resist.
3) To examine
Examine significa examinar algo detenidamente, por ejemplo una herida, un documento o una situación.
Ejemplo: Whenever I got a cut, my mom examined it and then cleaned it for me.
4) To peer
Peer se utiliza cuando miramos con esfuerzo porque algo es difícil de ver o porque la visión está parcialmente obstructed.
Ejemplos: The girl was jumping up and down trying to peer out the window. / George carefully peered inside the box.
5) To witness
Witness significa presenciar un acontecimiento con tus propios ojos. Es frecuente en contextos legales y policiales.
Ejemplo: A friend told me she witnessed a crime last night.
Como sustantivo, witness significa testigo, y witness stand es el lugar del tribunal donde declara un testigo.
Con estas alternativas puedes escoger un verbo mucho más exacto que look y hacer que tu inglés suene más natural.

After a few moments, Emma realizes that her daughter is no longer at her side.
She quickly scans the store but can't find her daughter.
Emma is so worried about not finding her daughter that she has an expression on her face as if she witnessed a crime.
Finally, Emma finds her daughter in the bakery. She is inside contemplating that delicious cake.
So Emma and her daughter eat a big slice of that cake and enjoy their time together.
