¿Has conocido alguna vez a alguien que sabe mucho sobre gramática inglesa?
Quizá puede explicar los tiempos verbales.
Conoce la diferencia entre el present perfect y el past simple.
Conoce muchas reglas de gramática.
Pero cuando intenta hablar inglés, ocurre algo extraño.
Duda.
Traduce.
Busca las palabras.
Es casi como si sus conocimientos de gramática desaparecieran.
¿Por qué pasa esto?
Hoy vamos a hablar de por qué estudiar gramática no es suficiente para hablar inglés.
Y te presentaré una técnica que uso en mis lecciones llamada Point of View, que te ayuda a aprender gramática a través del contexto.
Bien. ¡Empecemos!
Primero quiero aclarar algo.
La gramática no es mala.
La gramática puede ser útil.
Puede ayudarte a entender cómo funciona el inglés.
Puede ayudarte a reconocer patrones.
Puede ayudarte a organizar lo que sabes.
Por ejemplo, si quieres entender por qué usamos una expresión determinada, una explicación gramatical puede ser muy útil.
Pero hay una diferencia entre saber cosas sobre el inglés y ser capaz de usar el inglés.
Imagina que quieres aprender a conducir un coche.
Compras un manual de conducción.
No un manual pequeño.
Un manual enorme.
Un manual muy serio.
Lo lees de principio a fin.
Aprendes todas las señales de tráfico.
Aprendes para qué sirve cada botón.
Aprendes cómo funciona el motor.
Incluso aprendes cuál es la presión correcta de los neumáticos.
Después de meses estudiando, sabes muchísimo sobre coches.
Básicamente eres un experto… en leer un libro.
Pero entonces te sientas en el asiento del conductor.
Alguien te dice:
“Bien. Conduce.”
Y tú dices:
“Espera un momento. Tengo que repasar el capítulo siete.”
Por supuesto, el manual es útil.
Pero leer un manual no es lo mismo que conducir.
Necesitas práctica.
Necesitas experiencia.
Necesitas usar el coche.
Aprender inglés es parecido.
Las reglas de gramática pueden ayudarte a entender el inglés.
Pero conocer las reglas no es lo mismo que usar el inglés de forma natural.
Muchos estudiantes pasan años estudiando gramática, pero no pasan suficiente tiempo escuchando y usando el inglés.
Conocen las reglas, pero todavía no pueden usarlas con facilidad cuando las necesitan.
Por eso es tan importante aprender inglés en contexto.
Tu cerebro necesita ejemplos.
Necesita ver cómo se usa el inglés en situaciones reales.
Por eso utilizo las lecciones Point of View.
La idea es sencilla.
Escuchas la misma historia desde distintos puntos de vista.
La historia se mantiene casi igual, pero el idioma cambia.
Como ya entiendes la situación, puedes concentrarte en los cambios del inglés.
No necesitas memorizar una larga explicación de gramática.
Simplemente puedes observar los patrones.
Ahora vamos a practicar con una lección Point of View.
Recuerda: te contaré la misma historia de una forma diferente. Escucha con atención y observa cómo cambia el inglés.

Lee la misma historia desde distintos puntos de vista y observa cómo cambia la gramática de forma natural.

Professor Grammar-9000 is the most advanced English-learning robot in the world.
The robot knows thousands of grammar rules.
It knows every tense, every exception, and every grammar explanation.
Students love Professor Grammar-9000 because it can explain any grammar question.
If someone asks:
“What is the difference between these two sentences?”
The robot answers immediately.
It is an amazing grammar expert.
But there is one small problem.
Professor Grammar-9000 cannot have a normal conversation.
When someone asks:
“How are you today?”
The robot becomes confused.
It searches its database.
It analyzes the question.
It checks the grammar rules.
And after several minutes, it says:
“I am experiencing a positive emotional condition.”
The person smiles and says:
“Okay… but I just asked how you are.”
The robot knows a lot about English grammar, but it needs more practice using English.

This is the idea behind Point of View lessons.
You don’t study grammar rules separately.
You hear English used in a meaningful situation, and your brain starts to notice how the language changes.
Grammar is a tool.
It can help you.
But if your goal is fluency, you need more than explanations.
You need to spend time with understandable English.
You need to listen.
You need to respond.
You need to practice.
And little by little, English becomes more natural.
