Hola a todos. Soy Georgiana, tu profesora de inglés. Mi misión es ayudarte a hablar inglés con fluidez.
Este episodio se publicó originalmente en 2021, cuando se empezaba a hablar mucho de “volver a la normalidad” después de largos periodos de restricciones. Lo presentamos aquí como una fotografía lingüística e histórica de aquel momento.
Después de pasar muchísimo tiempo en casa, algunas personas bromeaban con que podían convertirse en hermits, ermitaños, o en recluses, personas que viven apartadas y evitan deliberadamente el contacto social.
También se había vuelto muy común pedir takeout, comida preparada para llevar, y pasar horas viendo series desde el sofá.
Yo siempre me había considerado extrovertida, pero después de tanto tiempo en casa incluso para una persona extrovertida podía resultar extraño volver a salir y recuperar antiguos hábitos.
Muchas personas se habían adaptado a un nuevo estilo de vida y la pregunta era: ¿será difícil get back to normal, volver a la normalidad?
¿Y volver a la oficina?
El episodio planteaba que la pandemia podía cambiar de forma duradera el lugar de trabajo tradicional y que las empresas tendrían que decidir cómo combinar oficina y trabajo remoto.
También citaba un estudio de aquel momento según el cual los teletrabajadores trabajaban, de media, 1,4 días más al mes. Presentamos ese dato únicamente como referencia histórica del episodio de 2021, no como una cifra actual.
Trabajar en una oficina tiene ventajas, como el contacto con otras personas, mientras que el trabajo remoto ofrece flexibilidad y evita desplazamientos.
La pregunta para practicar sigue siendo útil: Do you prefer working in an office or working remotely?

One day, Ken heard on the news that the government decreed a year-long lockdown.
So, Ken decided to go to a hut in the mountains. He hurried to buy a year's supply. He took advantage of a bargain and bought three tons of canned beans. Furthermore, he also bought batteries and even an electric generator.
Ken had no television or radio and no internet in that hut. So he decided to be patient and wait the set time. For reading, he only had an old phone book. He was bored out of his mind.
Every day he ate a can of beans. After three days, he was fed up, but he had to hang in there until the end. And since he forgot to buy any razors, his beard grew every day.
At the end of a year, he left the hut with a very long beard, his clothes half torn and headed for civilization. People looked at him like he was crazy.
It turned out that in the end, the lockdown only lasted two weeks, so Ken was isolated all that time, not knowing that the rest of the world had returned to normal within a few days.
And from then on, Ken hated beans.
