En este episodio veremos algunos phrasal verbs muy frecuentes. Después los practicaremos con una mini-historia de preguntas y respuestas.

Muchos estudiantes se preocupan demasiado por cómo aprender los phrasal verbs. En realidad, un phrasal verb es simplemente un verbo combinado con una partícula, como get in.
Existen miles y algunos pueden parecer poco intuitivos. Además, un mismo phrasal verb puede tener varios significados.
¿Cómo puedes aprenderlos todos? La buena noticia es que no necesitas hacerlo. Empieza por los más frecuentes y por uno o dos significados realmente útiles.
Turn on
El significado más básico de turn on es encender o poner en funcionamiento algo.
Ejemplos: "Please, can you turn on the TV? I want to watch the news." / "Please, turn on the computer. I need to check something."
También puedes utilizar switch on con ese mismo sentido.
En contextos informales, turn on también puede significar provocar atracción o excitación. Por eso es importante interpretar la expresión dentro del contexto.
Turn off
Turn off significa apagar o detener el funcionamiento de algo. También puedes usar switch off.
Ejemplo: "Please, turn off the TV; we are talking about something important."
Turn up
Turn up puede significar aumentar algo, especialmente el volumen.
Ejemplo: "Turn the volume up, please; I'd like to listen to the news."
Turn down
Turn down puede significar bajar el volumen, la intensidad o el brillo.
Ejemplo: "Please turn the music down. It's too loud."
También significa rechazar una oferta.
Ejemplos: "I don't want that job, so I am going to turn it down." / "Please carefully consider the offer before turning it down."
Turn out
Turn out se utiliza cuando algo acaba ocurriendo o resultando de una determinada manera, muchas veces de forma inesperada.
Ejemplos: "It turns out that Jim doesn't want to buy a car." / "It turns out that she's a vegetarian." / "The job offer turned out to be a scam."
Como ves, no necesitas memorizar listas enormes. Aprende unas pocas expresiones frecuentes y encuéntralas muchas veces en contexto.
