Hola. Soy Georgiana y quiero ayudarte a hablar inglés con fluidez. Con el material y las técnicas adecuadas, avanzar es mucho más sencillo.
En la lección de hoy vamos a hablar de kinship, es decir, el parentesco o la relación entre los distintos miembros de una family.
Después practicarás este vocabulario con una mini-historia de preguntas y respuestas para trabajar también la fluidez.
Kinship es la relación familiar entre dos personas: por ejemplo, padre e hijo, hermanos, abuelos y nietos.
A veces incluso nos confundimos con nuestros propios parentescos, sobre todo cuando hablamos de familiares lejanos. Un relative es un familiar, es decir, cualquier miembro de tu familia.
Hoy vas a aprender los parentescos más básicos. Te recomiendo escuchar el episodio varias veces para que las palabras se vuelvan familiares.
Vamos a imaginar una familia y a nombrar a cada miembro. Así será mucho más fácil.
También puedes apoyarte en el árbol genealógico de la lección para visualizar las relaciones.
Imaginemos un matrimonio: Alexander está casado con Alexandra. Alexander es el husband de Alexandra y Alexandra es la wife de Alexander.
Alexandra podría decir, por ejemplo:
My husband is lazy, never helps at home, and is always on the couch watching TV.
Y Alexander podría decir:
My wife always tells me to clean up, but I'm tired. That's why I'm always on the couch.
Alexander y Alexandra tienen dos hijos: un hijo, Alex, y una hija, Alexa. Alexander es su father o dad, y Alexandra es su mother o mom.
Alexander podría decir:
I am very proud of my children: Alex and Alexa. They're really smart.
Alexandra podría decir:
Unlike Alexander, my children always help at home. They're not lazy.
¿Qué relación tienen Alex y Alexa entre sí? Son hermanos o siblings. Alex es el brother de Alexa y Alexa es la sister de Alex.
Hasta aquí tenemos parents, son, daughter, brother, sister, siblings, husband y wife.
Alexander también tiene padres. Su padre se llama Raymond y su madre, Rachel.
Y Alexandra es hija de Anthony y Antoinette.
Veamos ahora la relación de Raymond, Rachel, Anthony y Antoinette con Alex y Alexa.
Raymond y Rachel son los grandparents de Alex y Alexa. Anthony y Antoinette también son sus grandparents.
En total, Alex y Alexa tienen cuatro abuelos: Raymond, Rachel, Anthony y Antoinette.
Alex y Alexa dicen que quieren mucho a sus grandparents porque siempre les traen regalos.
Y los abuelos están muy orgullosos de Alex y Alexa.
Ahora la relación en la dirección contraria: Alex y Alexa son los grandchildren o grandkids de Raymond, Rachel, Anthony y Antoinette.
Así que recuerda: los hijos de tus hijos son tus grandchildren.
